| International Youth Day celebrated at MIER | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 13- MIER College of Education through Centre for Women Studies and in collaboration with Dainik Jagran celebrated “International Youth Day”. The students and faculty of the college interacted in an open discussion titled “Challenges and Opportunities in front of the Youth.” Annie Koul, senior lecturer who initiated the discussion, stressed that youth happen to be more sizeable and important section of the society. The participants discussed and interacted on different challenges and opportunities available to the youth in 21st Century where as Dr. D.R. Kapoor, HOD Research Cell put light on important statistical data regarding youth. He stressed that India has the maximum energy in the form of youth and that energy should be channelized in a positive way. Dr. Arun K. Gupta, Chairman MIER, who chaired the program, talked about various problems being faced by the youth, like drug abuse, anti-social behavior, lack of confidence and role conflicts etc. He invited the attention of participants as to what kind of initiatives should be taken to empower the youth in order to make them useful citizens. Dr. Gupta stressed the need for ‘Yuva Manch’ and ‘Youth Clubs’ where youth can express themselves freely. Dr. Renu Gupta, Principal MIER was of the opinion that there is a dire need to develop life skills, moral values and a positive attitude among the youth. As an educationist she stressed that, first and foremost thing is to educate the youth and to sensitize them about various roles he can play in the reconstruction of the society. She recommended that special emphasis should be given to the growth and development of youth specially the girl child, women and disadvantaged group. She also stressed that media have an important role to play.
