| Udhampur villagers protest for drinking water | | | Sarita Jamwal Udhampur Aug 13 - Protesting against water scarcity in the three villages of Majalta tehsil from last eight months, majority of residents of Deot, Dama and Sunal villages of Majalta tehsil today in protest closed their shops and staged dharna on Dhar road near Dama disrupting traffic on the road for five hours The inhabitants along with representatives of all political parties including, Congress, BJP National Conference and Panthers raised anti administration and anti- PHE slogans sitting on dharna in the scorching heat. The residents headed by Congress block president Kuldeep Singh, BJP leader Ramesh Kumar, NC block president Advocate Susheel Kumar and Panther leader Balwant Raj threatened to launch agitation if water supply was not restored in these villages at the earliest. They alleged that despite representation given to local PHE officers, Tehsil and district administration no one came to heed their grievance till date forcing them to block the road today. They alleged that area is without drinking water supply from last several months and people are facing lot of hardships and hot weather condition has added further miseries to them. Speakers added that water problem is so grave that they have to walk kilometers to fetch water for drinking as natural water sources have also dried. Meanwhile, local SHO and Naib Tehsildar Maden Lal along with PHE authorities visited the spot and pacified irked villagers assuring water supply in the area shortly.
