| Imported toys worth Rs. 20 lakhs seized in Jammu | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, AUGUST 14: For the first time in Jammu & Kashmir imported toys worth Rs 20 lakhs have been seized by the Special team of Legal Metrology department from two leading wholesale dealers in Jammu city. The Secretary to Government Consumers Affairs & Public Distribution K B Jandial told TOI that the raid was conducted on these show rooms on public complaint received from different corners regarding sale of imported toys mostly made in China which do not carry label as required under central Package Commodity Rules 1977. These toys in packages do not carry date of packing, name of importer &MRP. On inspection of the records, it was found that the traders had imported the toys in to J&K on under billing. These toys did not indicate the age group for these is manufactured. All these are mandatory requirement. The team led by Manoj Prabhakar Assistant Controller, Jammu found thousands of such packed toys with no mandatory requirements mentioned on the toys including name of the Importer, Manufacturer, MRP, PKD ,Consumer help line number along with other safety guidelines required under other relevant Acts. . All the items were under billed as compared to actual sale price. The team also seized other Toys made in India which were found to be violative of Rules. Approximately, the value of such items has been assessed at more than 20 Lakhs. The sale of such Toys were stopped & traders were warned to desist from selling dangerous product to the Consumers without complying all the requirements, otherwise strict action as warranted under the Act will be initiated & the defaulters will be prosecuted in the court of Law.
