| Dev of G&B community imperative for state’s progress: Mian Altaf | | | Early Times Report SRIANGAR, Aug 14: Government is committed to extend all basic amenities to Gujjar and Bakerwal community and will take all necessary measures for their upliftment. This was stated by Minister for Forests and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad while addressing public meetings at Sonabarari, Tangwar and Ahalamgadal of district Anantnag today. The Minister admitted that the funds released under TSP have not been properly utilized in the past. This, he said has resulted in the poor development of the community. Mian Altaf asked the community to fight for their genuine rights, even as he assured full support of Mr. Omar led government in their socio-economic transformation, adding development of Gujjar and Bakarwal community was imperative for state’s progress. The Minister was accompanied by the District Development Commissioner, Anantnag, Sheikh Mushtaq Ahmad, PHE and PMGSY engineers besides various district officers. The Minister directed the PHE authorities to formulate plans for construction of water supply schemes for these areas so that the people could be provided potable drinking water facilities in shortest possible time. He assured the people that the power supply would be made available to these areas under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidutikaran Yojana while matter regarding setting up of ration sale depots would be taken up with the concerned authorities. During inspection of 8 km long Mohourpore-Tangwar road being constructed under PMGSY at an estimated cost of Rs 5 crore, the Minister was informed that Rs 2 crore have been utilized so far on it. The Minister was given a warm welcome during his tour and received with traditional hospitality of drum beating and lok dances.
