ECTA delegation meets Malik, pleads demands

Jammu, Aug 14: A delegation of Engineering College Teacher’s Association(ECTA) today met Minister for Higher Education Sh. Abdul Gani Malik and asked him to fulfill their long pending demand of implementation of pay and recruitment rules.
The delegation of ECTA led by Mr. Rajiv Bali, president informed the minister that Govt College of Engineering and Technology, Jammu was established in the year 1994 but still it does not have pay/recruitment rules leading to frustration among the faculty members.
He further said that ECTA members have been pleading with successive authorities for past more than a decade for implementation of pay rules as per All India Council for Technical Education, (AICTE) norms. While the recruitment rules have not been even framed since past 14 years.
Bali said that in the absence of implementation of AICTE rules, the promotional avenues of the GCET faculty have been blocked. The teaching faculty recruited in GCET is still at the level of lecturer while their counter parts in other institutions like NIT, Srinagar, Jammu University, SKUAST-K & J have reached the post of Professors..
Mr. Bali further said that GCET has been providing consultancy services to various government departments including PMGSY, PDD, ERA, PWD etc. also and earning good revenue which is adding to the government’s kitty still GCET staff is at disadvantageous position viz a viz other colleges.
He said that ECTA has been pursuing the Govt. for correction in SRO-61 framing the Pay Rules which was partial and did not provide justice to the upper teaching cadre, but the file has been pending in the civil secretariat for last more than 10 years despite rigourous perusal.
Director Colleges, Mr. ND Wani, who was also present on the occasion, commending the role of GCET faculty, said that they have genuine grievances and these should be addressed in right earnest.
The Minister for Higher Education Sh. Abdul Gani Malik paid a patient hearing to the pleas of GCET faculty and assured positive response to their demands.
The delegation of ECTA comprised of Dr. Sanjeev Gupta. Dr. Sameeru Sharma, Er. Sarbjeet Singh, Er. Salwant Raj, Er. Sheetal Gandotra, Er. Bhawna Sharma, Er Sanjeev Gupta and Er. Ajay Abrol.
