 People’s Patriotism
8/14/2009 9:27:37 PM
Dr. Vikas Jamwal
We have been told that the Japanese are the most patriotic nationals in the world, their love to the nation and respect to their King is immense, which they displayed whenever their love and loyalty demanded to battle the enemies at the time of any threat to its people. The reason, why a crushing defeat in World War-II and the dreaded twin nuclear strike couldn’t break the spirit of its nationalistic inhabitants as they rebuild the country from its bottom and successfully placed it in the rank of second largest economy in the world. That’s what a little I know about Japan and its people’s patriotism. Another country, whom I know well for its heroic patriotism, is Russia, where I spent six years of my life as a student. Right from beginning this nation probably suffered the worst of world history. In spite of the largest in area, richest in natural resources and an all time strongest military might, winner of the bloodiest great patriotic war which defeated the strongest army of German third Reich, not even a single entire generation had a chance to live peacefully, starting from cruel Czar Regime followed by Socialist State repression and then post Soviet era of lawlessness in the country, but still for them nation is first rest is next. After the fall of Soviet Empire, Russia succeeded preserves the national integrity while dealing firmly with notorious Chechens.
It was the patriotism of its people that Japan & Russia rebuild itself overcoming all odds, in the contrary we even failed to preserve what was left behind with us. It’s the terrible commitment of people of Israel that triumph their country against multinational aggression during famous six day war in Middle East. With time, realizing the fact that only peace and brotherhood can bring us prosperity and quality of life, the German reunited, Yemenis reconciled, and Vietnam unity liberated, days are not far when you will see the divided Korean Peninsula as one nation. On the other hand, Yugoslavia didn’t learn any lesson from divide and rule policy, and continuing paying the price of a divided nation with unsuccessful process of reconciliation.
Before independence, India was a country of many principalities ruled by different Maharajas and Nawabs, after independence nothing has changed much, now it’s a nation of political princes and princess. Where different dynasties are ruling both at centre and in state as per their own will, against the wishes of majority.
Keeping in view the fundamental rights and minimum basic requirements of a normal human soul, probably Dr. B.R Ambedkar scripted our constitution with same hope and desire what Karl Marx must have thought while writing Das Capital. After a short period of time the vision of both great men of the century are turning into a fiction because of the difficulties in their practical applications. We are proud of our democratic institution; it’s largest in the world, guarantee us ample opportunity to make our democratic system an utter failure, by underestimating the state of law, we liberally do what benefits us doesn’t matter how worse it is for states and others.
In 1962, Indo-China war our ill equipped men fell prey to  the poor vision of Nehru and his handpicked distant kinsman General B.M Koul, the man responsible for the debacle at eastern front. In 1965, Prime Minister Shastri under influence, by our long term alley USSR could not booked properly the Pakistani military dictatorship for their further mischievous adventures. However, mysteries are still surrounding his untimely demise at that time of crucial decision. Again in 1971, Smt. Gandhi failed to settle the Kashmir dispute, though having 90’000 POW in hands, as a result our sick neighbor spreading disease of terrorism and communalism in our country like nothing happened to him in past days.
Our freedom fighters had a dream of one nation with one mission of prosperity, unfortunately, this hope died very much before the birth of nation. The number of deaths and destruction during partition was much higher than the entire century long struggle for independence. Even partition failed to satisfied the vested interests of second and third generation of the same likeminded leadership which still on its very best to divide the same nation in many more nations. Many say our independence was a planned gift by the British Empire with an idea to weaken the inspiration of divided masses on the basis of religion, which will further divide the same people regionally. For religion we feel proud to make any sacrifice but when it comes to national interest, we look at others to do the same for us. Our house hold patriotism always looks at our neighbor house to give birth to a Bhagat Singh like who can face gallows to save our own neck.
