Ramban, Aug 15- - Like other parts of the country, the 63rd Independence Day was today celebrated here with great enthusiasm and gaiety.
The main function was held in Government Higher Secondary School, Ramban, where the Minister of State Haj and Auqaf Aijaz Ahmed Khan unfurled the tricolour and took the salute at the march past.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police Adil Hamid was leading the parade while about 20 contingents including CRPF, IRP, JKP, JKAP, Forest Protection Force, NCC and contingents of various schools participated in the parade.
Remembering the sacrifices of the of freedom fighters for liberating their mother land from the clutches of the Britishers, the Minister said that we should not forget Shaheed Baghat Singh, Raj Guru, Sukhdev and Shafat Ullah Khan, Lala Lajpat Rai who laid down their lives to give us a freedom . He stressed on imbibing the thoughts of the Father of the Nation, Mahatama Gandhi, Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, Moulana Abdul Kalam Azad and others to ensure that the nation maintains its unique social fabric and achieve new highs in development field.
The Minister said that at present, a number of schemes are being executed in District Ramban and progress of different developmental schemes is going on at accelerated speed. He cautioned the people against the nefarious designs of the communal forces and anti social elements hell bent upon disrupting the peaceful atmosphere of the state. Mr. Aijaz Khan said that maintaining peace, communal harmony and brotherhood is vital to expedite the developmental pace in the region.
The Minister said that special priority has been given to Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries, Animal and Sheep Husbandry sectors which are employment generating units. He also said that Roshini Act was an historical decision by which thousand of farmers got ownership rights. The Minister further said the State Government is committed to reach the benefits of schemes to the people particularly the downtrodden, backward classes, SC/ST and those living under the Below Poverty Line through various schemes sponsored by the Centre and State.
He also said that every possible effort is being made by the state government to provide justice at the doorsteps of the common man particularly to the poor. He said that the construction work of the Banihal Degree College will be started soon. He said that road connectivity, scarcity of drinking water and health care facilities form the priorities of the district and special emphasis is being given to them. He further said that Rs. 25 crore has been spent in the district under under NREGA and nearly 24 thousand unskilled people have been provided jobs. He said that under BRGF a special package has been given to this district.
Aijaz assured the people that under NABARD, 18 roads are presently under construction and in future all the rural areas will be connected under this scheme. He further said that wages under NREGA shall be increased form Rs.70 to Rs.110.
On the occasion, MLA Ramban, Ashok Kumar sanctioned Rs.2 lakh for construction of toilet blocks in Degree College campus at Government Higher Secondary School, Ramban.
Later, the students of various government and private schools in traditional dresses presented colourful programs, patriotic songs and folk dances which enthralled the audience.
Deputy Commissioner Ramban, K. B. Magotra, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ajay Singh Jamwal, Assistant Commissioner (Revenue), SP and other civil and police officers and citizens in large number were present during the celebrations.
