Malik recalls landmark development in India during 62 yrs of freedom

REASI, Aug 15- The 63rd Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotism at sports stadium, Reasi today.
The Minister for Higher Education Abdul Gani Malik hoisted the National flag and took salute at the 27 contingents including JK police, JKAP, STC Talwara, Forest Protection Force and students of various educational institutions.
Speaking on the occasion, Malik remembered the freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the cause of the nation and freed India from the clutches of British rule. He stressed upon the people to follow the foot prints of our freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, Maulana Abul Kalaam Azad, Lal Bhadur Shastri, Netaji Subash Chander Bose, Chander Shekher Azad, Bhaghat Singh, Raj Guru, Sukhdev and others and paid rich tribute to them on this august occasion.
The minister said that after attaining Independence, our country has entered a new era of all round development and has carved a niche for itself in the world political and economic fora. He exhorted the people to maintain unity and brotherhood to promote peace and harmony in the state, adding that unity among diversity is a unique feature of our country and everyone has to contribute in strengthening the cords of unity
Earlier, the day long celebrations started with the plying of Shehnai Vadan by the Information Department, Reasi from Kalka Mandir in the wee hours followed by patriotic songs.
Students of various educational institutions presented colourful cultural programmes based on national integration, communal harmony and mutual brotherhood.
The best three contingents in march past were Bhartiya Vidya Mandir, Reasi, Higher Secondary School boys, Reasi and Trikuta Shishksa Niketan, Reasi while in cultural items, Presentation Convent School, Reasi, Trikuta Shishksha Niketan and Lawrence High School, Reasi got the first second and third prize respectively.
Among others, local MLA, Baldev Raj Sharma, Ex- Minister Jagjiveen Lal, District Development Commissioner, P. K. Pole, Senior Superintendent of Police, Anand Jain, Addl. District Development Commissioner, F. C. Bhagat, Addl. Deputy Commissioner, Reasi, M. H. Bhatti, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Sukhdev Singh Sambyal, all district level officers, councilors, prominent citizens and thousands of people participated in the celebrations.
Similar functions were also held at other parts of the district. SDM, Mahore Mohammed Hanief Malik hoisted the National Flag at Mahore, Tehsildar Mahore R.C.Tripathy hoisted the flag at Arnas while as Naib Tehsildars hoisted the tricolour at Dharmari and Pouni and ZEO at Chassana.
Independence Day was also celebrated with gaiety at Jyotipuram, Pouni and Talwara.
