| Gastritis engulfs Kalem village; more than 350 people ill | | | Srinagar, July 16 : Thanks to the contaminated water allegedly being supplied to the people, gastritis has reportedly engulfed the entire village causing infection to more than 350 people in Kelam village of Anantnag district.
While the people were facing the acute problem of the gastritis, the government dispensary has also reportedly fallen short of medicines. However, the officials claimed that a team of doctors under the supervision of Block Medical Officer Qazigund Dr Nazir Ahmed was deputed to the area, this morning.
According to reports reaching here the people started complaining of gastric problem since last three days and the local dispensary witnessed a swelling number of patients. "People have complained of vomiting and diarrhea and the number of the patients continue increasing", a resident of the area said, over phone.
Sensing emergency, a team of doctors was deputed to the village this morning to take stock of the situation and doctors have reportedly attended more than 350 patients on Monday. "Adequate number of doctors with medical supply has been deputed to the area so that the people can be treated", said Dr Nazir Ahmed, BMO. He, however, said that no patient has yet been referred to Qazigund hospital which suggest that the situation was well under control.
He appealed the people to use only safe and hygienic water for drinking as such disease is basically spread due to the contaminated water.
"We have requested the concerned authorities in the PHE department on number of occasions that the water shall be filtered before being supplied to the people but our requests have not been given any consideration", said Ghulam Ahmed, a resident of the village. |
