| Locating Central University | | College students shun classes, school also joining | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 17- Launching the second phase of struggle and vociferously demanding establishment of already sanctioned Central University (CU) in Jammu, the students of both city colleges and schools continued to boycott their classes for the 25th straight day and staged protest demonstrations across the region.
It was the first time that the students of Sri Ranbir Memorial Higher Secondary School (SRMLS) today jumped into the struggle. The members of CUAS Chaudhary Naseeb Ali and Bunty Chaudhary who forced boycott of classes were picked up by the Police. However both of them were released later in the evening.
In reply to a question Suresh Magotra Secretary CUAS said that the protests would be intensified in all the schools including private institutions in the coming days to force the government to establish the CU at Jammu.
As per report, the students of GGM Science College, SPMR College of Commerce, MAM College, and GCW Gandhi Nagar boycotted their classes under the leadership of CUAS leaders and staged protest demonstration in front of their colleges. The protestors today burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Heavy deployment of police personnel was made outside the colleges.
The CUAS spokesperson informed that the students from GGM Science College and SPMR College of Commerce were led by Pratap Singh, CUA secretary while Varinder Singh led the students of MAM College.
At GCW Gandhi Nagar, Preeti Choudhary accompanied by Meenakshi Sharma, Urvashi Bhat, Harshdep Kur , Shagun and Diksha led the agitating students. They also staged a sit in on the main road in front of the college and disrupted traffic for over an hour. The students of GCW Gandhi Nagar also launched awareness campaign on the direction of core committee of Samiti. They pasted the stickers on the private vehicles and also made the people aware about the issue of CU.
Similar protests were also held near Fountain plaza at Jammu University under the leadership of Suresh Sharma and Sunil Sharma both CUAS secretary. They burnt the effigy of CM and also raised slogans against the State Government to shift the CU from Jammu region to Kashmir and demanded establishment of same at Samba district.
The students of GDC R S Pura also boycotted their classes and held demonstration in the college premises. They burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and raised slogans against his discriminatory attitude. The protest was led by CUAS member Balbir Singh.
Similar protests were held at Samba and Kathua where the students staged dharna and torched the effigy of Chief Minister.
