| Jammu and Kashmir approaches Centre for tunnel across Razdan pass | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 18 : The Jammu and Kashmir Government has approached the entre for construction of longest 18-km tunnel in the state across the Razdan pass to provide and all weather road to the border town of Gurez which remains cut off for six winter months due to heavy snowfall. The Government has also approached the centre for construction of another tunnel across Sadhna top. In a written reply to a question asked by National Conference (NC) Member Nazir Ahmad Gurezi, Public Works Minister G M Saroori informed the Legislative Assembly here today that a proposal for construction of tunnel across the Razdan pass on Bandipora-Gurez road has been submitted by Chief Engineer, project BEACON to Director General of Border Roads Organisation (BRO). He said the proposal is at advanced stage of contract action for feasibility study. Mr Gurezi, not satisfied with the answer, wanted to know why the state government had not taken the issue with the Centre directly for funds and other help. Mr Saroori said it is true that Gurez remained cut off for six winter months due to heavy snowfall, particularly in Razdan pass area, the only way to enter the town. People of these areas face difficulties because of road closure, he said adding it has not been decided to construct 18-km-long tunnel from Tragbal to Kashipora which will cost Rs 1,800 crore.He said another tunnel is proposed across Sadhna pass which connects Tanghdar and Teetwal.
