| Jammu, Aug 18 - Expressing serious concern over Government’s indifferent attitude towards setting up Central University in Jammu, Central University Andolan Samiti (CUAS) today came up with its new program urging the school and college students to boycott their classes on August 19 and 20 and to take part in the proposed torch light procession. Announcing this at a press conference here today, Sunil Sethi, spokesperson, CUAS and president Bar Association Jammu said ‘Since no response has come from the Government side for setting up Central University in Jammu even after one and half month, CUAS has decided to intensify its ongoing movement’. “Government itself wanted Jammu should go aggressive”, he said adding, ‘what the Government did during last one and half month only gives an impression that Government is not for Jammu for Kashmir only. “CUAS demanded written commitment from the government that Central University would be set up in Jammu and besides shifting of Central University Vice Chancellor’s office to Jammu”, he said. He said permanent functioning of VC in Jammu, notification to acquire land at Samba and freezing of all activities related to Central University in Kashmir are the demands of CUAS and government should come out with concrete efforts to concede these demands in writing. The bandh will be observed in all schools and colleges of Jammu region, he said adding that Jammu University has been exempted from this bandh due to examinations. He hoped that the students of private educational institutions too would boycott their classes on these dates and join the procession to show solidarity with the Jammuties who have been denied their rights by the Kashmir centric government. ‘Besides, bandh in schools and colleges, torch light procession (Mashal Yatra) will be taken out in whole in all the districts across Jammu region from 7:30 PM to 9:30PM on August 19, 20”, he announced and further said ‘it will create awareness among the masses regarding What Central University Is”. Sethi further informed that Yodha Barthi Abhiyan will also be launched and 2 lakhs people will be registered to strengthen the ongoing movement for Central University. The Yodha Barthi Abhiyan will include members from trade, social and political organization besides the students and others. The CUAS has also decided to approach Central leaders including Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Leader of Opposition L K Advani, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and others, Sethi said. He held the government responsible for the present turmoil in Jammu by maintaining cryptic silence over the CU issue. “In Kashmir when some issue is raised by the people, Government acts immediately and settle the things but in Jammu students are on roads for the last more than 15 days, the government is showing no concern and watching the situation like mute spectator ”, he pointed out. He clarified that CUAS is not against Kashmir but wants due share to Jammuties as well. ‘The government should act and establish Central University in full-fledged manner in Jammu before the things go out of control’, Sethi warned. Categorically denying having lowered its guns due to the proposed visit of RSS Chief Mohan Rago Bagwat, Sethi said that CUAS “CUAS have nothing to do with RSS Chief’s visit”. Paviter Singh Convenor CUAS was also present at the e press conference.
