| Optimize space technology research benefits for society: Prof. Punjabi | | | Early Times Report Srinagar Aug 19- Prof. Riyaz Punjabi, Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University Tuesday, stressed the need for optimization of space technology research outcomes for the society and asked all the participants to directly link their research objectives to the environmental and socio-economic problems facing the state. He was speaking at a one day meet organized by Space Application Centre (SAC) of Indian Space research Organization (ISRO), Ahmadabad at Kashmir University to promote R&D projects with universities in the state under Sponsored Research program of ISRO under ‘Respond’ program. Respond broadly aims at engaging academic sector to carry out research of relevance and usefulness to ISRO programs and helps universities assimilate modern space technology and develop human resource and research infrastructure. The knowledge generated from these research proposals is directly used for the environmental friendly socio-economic development of the state Prof Punjabi particularly suggested on focusing the research on climate change, increase of agricultural productivity and rejuvenation of wetlands and lakes. He said that, development of a village information system using GIS at district level in the state, shall go a long way in promoting decentralized planning at the Panchayat level and would lead to the better utilization of the resources and funds at the village level. He reiterated the University’s support and cooperation for the Department of Space research initiative in the state.
