| SFD celebrates Van Mahotsava | | | Early Times Report Kathua, Aug 19- As a part of on going Van- Mahotsava celebrations the Social Forestry Division Kathua in collaboration with NSS Unit, Government Degree College, Kathua launched plantation drive in the area. The District Development Commissioner Sanjeev Vema planted saplings of Alstoenia. DFO Social Forestry and other dignitaries also planted 500 saplings of ornamental, Medicinal, shade bearing and timber species of bottle brush, Neem, Toonu, Alstoenia and tolly Speaking on the occasion, the DDC emphasized the importance of forest cover for clean and healthy environment and meeting various needs of the local people. He congratulated the Social Forestry department and NSS unit for successfully launching the Van Mahotosava. He stressed the need for taking up plantation in a big way on the waste land, common land under NREGA so that local labourers may get employment. DFO Social Forestry, M.K. Kumar said that during the last five years Social Forestry Division, Kathua, through institutional plantation, has planted 50325 plants of fruit, Shade, timber and ornamental trees to improve environment. Principal Government Degree Collage, Dr. A.K Malhotra in his address mentioned the role of youth in the form of NSS and other units in improving the forest and green cover of the nation.
