Constable killed as militants attack Police Station

Jammu, July 17 : Militants attacked a police station killing one constable in border district of Poonch, while two Hizbul Mujahideen militants were arrested in a pre-dawn operation in mountainous Doda district, on Monday.

Official sources said that a group of heavily armed militants, after descending from a hill lock, attacked police station Gursai in Mendhar tehsil, early on Monday morning. The militants reportedly fired from two different directions with sophisticated weapons.

Police constables deployed on the guard duty retaliated and engaged the militants in the gun battle. Reports said that constable Muhammad Yasin felt to the bullets of the militants and died on the spot.

"As per the reports reaching from the area the constable was standing outside when militants opened fired. He died on the spot", a police officer told News Agency of Kashmir.

The police, however, engaged the militants for more than two hours in the heavy gun battle. The militants later managed to escape from the spot.

Police said that a joint operation of police and army was immediately lunched in the area to track down the fleeing militants. The operation was still in progress, when the last report came in.

Meanwhile, police claimed to have arrested two militants including a Pakistan affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen in a pre-dawn operation in Doda district, today.

Sources said that based on a specific information police launched a massive joint operation in a mountainous area of Ramban in Doda district. The troops cordoned off a hideout, where the militants were sleeping. The troops barged in and arrested both of them alive.

The arrested militants have been identified as Ghulam Rasool of Pakistan and Bashir Ahmed of Ramban, they said.

Arms and ammunition, including 7.6 mm rifle, magazines and 153 rounds, have been recovered from the arrested militants, the source said adding the duo have been sent to joint interrogation center for thorough interrogation.
