Dogri Sanstha organizes elocution poetry recitation contests

Jammu, Aug 20: Dogri Sanstha, Jammu, in collaboration with Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan (Deemed University) Ranbir Campus, Kot Bhalwal, organized an elocution and poetry recitation contest in Dogri at the Sansthan auditorium here today. Renowned English and Dogri scholar and writer, Prof. Neelambar Dev Sharma was the chief guest while function was presided over by Prof. Vishwa Murti Shastri, president on this occasion were Prof. Lalit Magotra, Prof. Veena Gupta, Prof. Shashi Pathania, Verinder Kesar and Dr. Sushma Sharma. In his address, Prof. Magotra threw light on the history and activities of Dogri Sanstha. He said that since its establishment in 1944, Dogri Sanstha, Jammu, has been tirelessly working for the promotion and propagation of Dogri in such a way that it had almost become a movement which culminated with the inclusion of Dogri in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution of India. He said that for a language to survive and prosper, it is very important that its speakers and users have sense of respect for the language. He said a large body of Dogri writers, artists and Dogri lovers got associated with the Sanstha and contributed in their respective capacities to help the Sanstha achieve its goal. He said that in its latest attempt to popularize Dogri among the youth of the state, Dogri Sanstha has decided to hold elocution contests in Dogri at the various educational institu

In his presidential address, Prof. Vishwa Murti Shastri expressed pleasure that Dogri Sanstha has chosen the Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan (Deemed University) Kot Bhalwal, as the venue of these contests and said that such interactions enriched the learning experience of the students. He said that this confluence of Sanskrit, the mother of all the Indian languages, and Dogri, the native language of the region was very important because this indicates that the languages are complementary to each other rather that antagonistic.
