| Bhagat Singh’s birth centenary observed | | JSSM demands naming of new hostel block after Bhagat Singh’s name | |
EARLY TIMES REPORTER JAMMU | SEPT 28 On the birth centenary of great martyr Bhagat Singh, Jammu State Students Morcha (JSSM) today organized different functions at Jammu University (JU) and GGM Science College to commemorate the occasion. In JU, the function was held near the main gate of the university. JU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Amitabh Mattoo was the chief guest whereas; MLA Suchetgarh Choudhary Gharu Ram was presiding over the function at JU. JSSM State President, Sunil Sharma presented the welcome address and highlighted the importance of the day. Speaking on the occasion, Sharma demanded that new block of university hostel should be named after Bhagat Singh and the old university hostel be named after Chandra Shekhar Azad. He also urged upon the sudent community to celebrate such occasions instead of celebrating Valentines Day and Friendship Day. Earlier, Prof. Mattoo and Gharu Ram lighted the lamp and garlanded the portrait of Bhagat Singh. Prof. Mattoo appreciated the efforts of JSSM to celebrate such occasions with the active participation of the students. Gharu Ram also appreciated JSSM and highlighted the sacrifices made by Bhagat Singh and other fellow martyr’s for the cause of motherland. Vikrant Singh of JU also spoke in length over the biography of Bhagat Singh meanwhile; Sunil Singh sang patriotic songs on the occasions. In Science College, the function was held at Department of Electronics where students assembled and paid tributes to the great martyr on the occasion of his birth centenary. Principal Prof. R.L.Sharma was also present on the occasion. Among those who spoke were, Vivek Sharma (Gen Secretary), Ashwani Choudhary (President JSSM’s College Unit), Mohinder Pal Singh, Hardev Singh Katoch and Vinay Sharma. Meanwhile, Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA) held a function at seminar hall of cultural academy to mark birth anniversary of Bhagat Singh. The functioning was presided over by the secretary CPI, Kamal Dev along with Naresh Munshi and President IPTA Vijay Malla. The members highlighted the struggle and sacrifices made by Shaheed, Bhagat Singh, Raj Guru, Sukh Dev. Besides many others who also fought for freedom struggle. Parvin Kesar, Gen. Secretary IPTA read out a paper on the life and influence of Marxism on Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
