Schools, Colleges , NGOs celebrates Akshay Urja Divas

JAMMU, AUGUST 20 - Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas is observed on August 20, the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, every year throughout the country to create awareness among general public, especially the student community about the role and utility of renewable energy in the present times of depleting natural resources and non-renewable fuels.
Jammu-To mark Akshay Urja Diwas celebrations in Jammu district, Jammu and Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA) today organized a school run from the main gate of Jammu University in which about 100 students drawn from Government Hari Singh Higher Secondary School, DBN School and Light House Public Jammu participated.
This school run was flagged off by District Development Commissioner, Jammu.
JKEDA has lined up a number of activities for creating the awareness about development and promotion of renewable energy resources .The activities include painting, essay writing competitions, symposia, school run and cultural programme etc.
These programmes are sponsored by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India under its Information and Public Awareness (I&PA) programme.
Kathua- To mark the day, a symposium on ‘Conservation of Renewable Resources’ was organized by the NSS unit of Government Degree College (GDC), Kathua for generating awareness about the importance of shifting to use of renewable forms of energy like bio-energy, wind, hydro and solar energy..
SSP, Kathua, Mr. Garib Das was the chief guest while as Principal GDC, S. Satinder Singh and Principal Police Training School, Mr. Sardar Khan were the guest of honour.
About 12 students of the college participated in the symposium and expressed their views on the topic. Megha Sharma, Samvedna and Shilpe Verma were adjudged first, second and third respectively. Nidhi Sharma and Neha Sharma were given consolation prizes.
While speaking on the life and vision of Late Rajiv Gandhi, Mr. Garib Das asked the students to follow the ideals of the great leader and contribute in making India a strong and prosperous nation.
Udhampur- Impressive and thought provoking mass awareness programmes on renewable energy marked the Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas celebrations at Udhampur
A massive rally, organized by the Department of Science and Technology (IREP) in collaboration with Education Department, comprising of over 2000 school children was flagged off from mini stadium by District Development Commissioner (DDC), Udhampur Mr. Ajay Khajuria, in the early hours of the day.
Students carrying placards in their hands with slogans about importance of renewable energy after passing through the main locations of the town finally culminated at Shree Goverdhan Palace, Udhampur.
The Chief Education Officer, Udhampur, Project Officer IREP, District Social Welfare Officer, heads of the educational institutions and teachers were present on the occasion.
A Cultural programme was also presented on the occasion by the artists of Song and Drama division which kept the audience spell bound.
Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said that the day coincides with the birth anniversary of late Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi who had perceived the necessity of energy preservation and use of renewable energy for the survival of mankind. He said that Rajeev Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas advocates the essence of renewable energy in the sectors of bio-energy, wind, hydro energy, solar energy.
The DDC also distributed prizes and certificates among the students who participated in symposium, poster making and slogan writing contests.
The department of Social Welfare also distributed lanterns to the outstanding sports personnel of the district belonging to Schedule Tribe category
Likewise, Government College for Women, Udhampur organized a symposium on the use of renewable energy resources as a tribute to late Sh. Rajiv Gandhi’s vision of taking the country in to twentieth centaury through application of modern science and technology.
Principal of the College Dr.Kiran Bakshi was the chief guest and convener Sciences, University of Jammu and expert Dr. S.K.Badyal was the guest of honor.
Doda- As part of Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas, a massive Sadbhavna rally comprising about 1500 students drawn from different government and private educational institutions was taken out in Doda town..
The rally was flagged off by the District Development Commissioner (DDC), Doda Syed Sharief-ud-Din from Government Higher Secondary School Boys. The rally passed through the different markets of the city with students carrying placards with slogans like “Plant Trees to Save Earth” , “ Stop cutting of Forests” , “ Use Renewable Sources of Energy like Solar energy”.
Later, an awareness programme on the topic “Renewable Energy Resources and Sadhbavana” was also organized at GHSS Boys Doda.
The Chief Education Officer Doda Mr. Y.R Thussu was the chief guest while as Mr. V.S Chouhan, CO 10 RR Doda was the guest of honour.
On the occasion, the students presented cultural programme comprising of songs, skits, patriotic songs, lectures and other programs to create awareness about the growing demand of energy and need of exploring renewable energy resources.
Principal GHSS Boys Doda, Mr. B.R Sharma dwelt on the visionary thoughts of late Prime Minister Sh. Rajiv Gandhi for taking India to new highs of prosperity through greater use of science and technology. He said that the Information Technology Mission implemented by late Mr. Gandhi was the main cause for the country registering itself among the fastest growing IT power of the world. He also talked about the tradition of communal harmony among the people of erstwhile Doda district.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Y.R Thussu appreciated the commitment of the staff and students of GHSS Boys, Doda for organizing such informative programme. He also distributed prizes among the winners of various events organized in the school.
KATRA, Government Girls High School, Katra organized a symposium to mark Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas in which 12 students participated.
Ms Priyanka Thapa, Ms Surbhi Gupta and Ms Vishali Thapa, all of class 9th were adjudged first, second and third.
Principal, HSS, Katra Mr Surdarshan Pandoh, who was the chief guest spoke about the importance of renewable energy to meet the energy deficit being faced by the world. He also threw light on the life of Late Prime Minister Mr Rajiv Gandhi
