| Swine flu scare | | 2527 reported at Surveillance center | | Early Times Report JAMMU, AUGUST 22 - Minister for Health, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma has exhorted upon the NGOs, media fraternity and social organizations to come forward to combat the contagious disease H1N1 virus by creating awareness among the masses regarding the spread and prevention of the disease. The Minister said this while addressing media persons after visiting the Surveillance and Isolation Centre at Bhagwati Nagar Jammu established for screening the patients with flu-like symptoms and collecting their samples for further analysis. He said that state is fully prepared to combat the disease as sufficient stock of drugs and other equipments is available and manpower resources have been mobilized for the purpose. Mr. Sharma further disclosed that Health Ministries of all the states held meeting with Union Health Minister for devising a strategy to counter the disease and it was apprised that 43 special laboratories are being set up in the country including the far-flung areas of North-Eastern states for sample testing and timely detection of the disease virus, adding that two such laboratories are being established in the state, one at SKIMS, Srinagar and the other at Microbiogry Lab, Jammu for early analysis of the sample for detecting the presence of H1N1 and Col. Chopra nursing Home at GMC Jammu has been closed for routine patients and reserved for H1N1 patients, in case the influenza takes epidemic form. The Minister appealed the people not to pay heed to the rumors and come out to check themselves against H 1 N 1 Virus in case symptoms exist and never be panicky as Swine flue influenza is hundred percent curable if detected in time. He also appealed the media persons to generate a positive picture of the situation as they can play a very crucial role in creating awareness regarding the spread of the disease and its prevention and treatment. Mr. Sharma also appreciated the devotion and dedication of doctors and para- medicos towards their duties who are providing treatment to the suspects as well as patients besides their moral boosting. He said that out of a total of 2527 patients, who reported at the Special Surveillance Centre, at Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu and 50 samples of the persons having flue like symptoms have been sent to New Delhi so far. Only six cases were detected positive and all these six patients were provided treatment and a few of them have been discharged as they have been cured.
