| 5.80 lakh visited Shiv Khori in 8 months | | | Early Times Report REASI, AUGUST 22 - The religious sanctity of Lord Shiva’s Cave Shrine situated about 130 kms from Jammu, 120 kms from Udhampur, 80 kms from the holy town Katra and 50 kms from Reasi in Sanger hills of Ransoo village in Pouni block has gained impetus these days as nearly 5.80 lakh pilgrims from within and outside the state have visited the cave shrine and paid obeisance upto 20th August, 2009. It was disclosed by the District Development Commissioner, Reasi, Mr. Pandurang Pole who is also the Vice Chairman of Shri Shiv Khori Shrine Board during a meeting convened in his office yesterday evening. Mr. Pole further disclosed that during the same period of last calendar year, about 3.56 lacs pilgrims had darshan of the holy Shiv Lingam and other deities existing in the cave thus registering an increase of about 2.24 lacs pilgrims this time so far. The total yatra of 2008 calendar year was registered 5, 21, 306 but this figure has already been crossed during first seven months of this calendar year and it is expected to cross the figure of this year. This Shrine cave is now emerging as one of the most growing pilgrimage destination of the Jammu province after Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine cave. This historic cave shrine is a huge hall with a 4 feet high Aap Shambo in the form of Shivlingam , which is also the presiding deity. The cave is a real wonder to be seen which according to the people is unending and believed to lead to Swami Amar Nath Jee cave in Kashmir. The cave is in the shape of Lord Shiva’s Damroo-wide at the two ends, while very congested at the centre. There are many features which can be observed in the cave, however the best of them is the natural water dripping from the top on the Shivlingam. Threadbare discussion were held during the meeting with regard to improvement of the facilities for visiting pilgrims which include accommodation, drinking water, uninterrupted power supply, rain shelter sheds with toilets, medicare facilities, plantation of medicinal plants along the track, repair of lights, construction of bus stand at Ransoo, installation of railing around Shivlingam, barricading, fencing the enroute track for safety of pilgrims, display of boards at suitable places, early completion of 5 multi stories waiting hall near the cave etc. The DDC issued on the spot instructions to the concerned officers for initiation of fresh initiatives and early completion of developmental projects already taken in hand to provide better infrastructural facilities to the pilgrims. The Executive Engineer R&B apprised the DDC that an amount of Rs. 2.64 crores has already been expended for the construction of 5 multi storied waiting hall near the cave and 80 percent finishing has been done so far. 2 toilet blocks and 4 number sitting places at suitable spots are completed besides 80 percent protection work of hill face by way of short crating also stands completed.
