| Common Cause: Congress PDP members protest over turn to speak in Assembly | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 22 A Congress and a People's Democratic Party (PDP) member today protested in the Legislative Assembly after the Speaker disallowed them to speak in the House. As the House was discussing the question by Independent Member Ashwani Kumar Sharma on recruitment policy, Congress Member from Banihal Vikar Rasool Wani raised the issue of local unemployed youths of his constituency. He said recently 15 youths of Banihal were among the candidates who were short-listed for selection in a local project. However, when the final list did not contain their names. MLA Banihal wanted to know why the local youths were not recruited. He contested the government claim that the appointments were made by the State Recruitment Board and said it had nothing to do with these appointments. However, when he was directed by Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone to resume his seat, he protested and said ''it was discrimination against the unemployed youths of his constituency''. ''You are from Treasury Bench, you should not talk like this and take up the matter with your Minister or Chief Minister,'' Speaker said. However, when MLA Banihal Rasool did not resume his seat, Speaker asked him to join the Opposition benches where PDP members were up on their feet, supporting the Congress member. He later went upto the first row and tried to draw the attention of the Speaker, who announced that the Question Hour was over and took up other businesses of the day. Later, MLA Banihal Rasool left the House without saying anything though he was being persuaded by other Treasury Bench Members to resume his seat. Supporting Vikar Rasool Wani, PDP member Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari said he should have been given time to speak and raised the issue concerning his constituency. Another PDP member Javaid Mustafa Mir stormed into the well of the House after he was not allowed to speak during the Zero Hour. Mir alleged that he was not being allowed to raise issues in the House. However, he later resumed his seat.
