| Provide essentials, power to people of J&K during Ramzan: CPI(M) | | | Early Times Report Srinagar | Sunday, Aug 23 Expressing concern over the acute shortage of essential commodities and power, the Communist Party of India (M) today alleged that the coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir was not serious for paying need to the consumers grievances. The government should be concerned over needs of the people and take concrete measures to redress their grievances CPI(M) State Secretary Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said during one-day party Convention at Anantnag. The convention which was attended by a large number of CPI(M) workers was presided over by G N Malik, General Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Kisan Tehreek. Mr Tarigami expressed dismay over the shortage of essential commodities and erratic power supply to the people of the state and alleged that the government was not serious for mitigating the problems faced by common man. He said government should fulfil its commitment made recently for arranging 20,000 tons of additional food grains from the Centre. However, he said, if the government failed to get additional food quota from the Centre it should arrange the required quantity from the open market. Reminding the government about the Cabinet decision regarding providing 11 kg ration per person per month, Mr Tarigami said the decision be implemented without any further delay. The list of BPL beneficiaries should be displayed outside ration depots and proper survey of beneficiaries under this category should be ensured, he demanded. Reports of acute shortage of food grains in some far off and hilly areas were alarming, he quipped. This emergent situation be tackled with a holistic approach, Mr Tarigami said, and urged the government to provide food security to the people.
