| All dilapidated building being identified and dismantled in Srinagar | | | Early Times Report Srinagar | Sunday, Aug 23 Ordering an inquiry into the collapse of a 100-year-old hotel in the Lal Chowk area, the nervecentre of the city, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has decided to identify and dismantle all delipidated buildings. The dilapidated hotel building was reportedly a disputed site between two parties and the SMC will inquire into the matter to point out the structural problems which resulted in to the collapse. The Joint Commissioner (Planning) SMC will inquire into the matter, an official spokesman said here today.He said Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development Department Nasir Aslam Wani today visited site of Hotel Coronation which had collapsed. The Minister was told about the dilapiadted condition of Pladium Cinema, which now houses a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp and other old buildings in Lal Chowk area which have developed cracks. Meanwhile, all ward officers and other officers concerned of SMC have been asked to submit list of old dilapidated buildings so that they are immediately dismantled. The SMC has asked the owners of these building owners to dismantle them immediately. However, in case the owners fail to do so SMC has powers and provisions under law to dismantle these buildings charge the owners for all costs along with penalty under law. The ward officers of Lal Chowk, Hari Singh High Street and Habba Kadal have been directed to remain more vigilant in identifying such buildings. The Minister was informed that even government buildings which were in dilapidated condition are being dismantled. The Estates building in Press colony Partap park, which was in depilated condition for the last one decade was being dismantled at present after taking full precautionary measures. Similarly other private and government buildings are also being identified for similar prompt action.
