| ARMY CHIEF INTERACTS WITH FIELD COMMANDERS DURING HIS TWO DAY VISIT TO JAMMU | | | Jammu, September 29 : The Chief of the Indian Army, Gen. J.J.Singh, visited border areas in Poonch and Rajouri in the Jammu region on Friday. Army spokesman said that Gen. Singh interacted with the field commander in the forward posts in Poonch and Rajouri where notes were exchanged on the border situation. The Army Chief,who is on a two-day visit to Jammu,had detailed discussion on latest border scenario in the context of level of infiltration of militants from across the border with GOC-in-Chief,Northern command,Lt. Gen. Deepak Kapoor,GOC 16 Corps,Lt. Gen. T.K. Sapru and other senior Army officers. Spokesman,Col.D.K.Badola,said the Army Chief was given a "detailed briefing about the counter terrorism situation in the Jammu region by the Corps commander,Lt. Gen. T.K.Sapru at Nagrota corps headquarters". Gen. Singh,according to the spokesman,"was apprised of operational prepardness and steps being instituted to check infiltration and control terrorist activities in the hinterland." The Army chief, expressed his deep satisfaction over the prevailing security situation and lauded the troops on ground for their operation in hostile terrain conditions. The spokesman said that Gen. Singh "commended the field commanders and troops for following the velvet glove and iron fist policy while carrying out people friendly operations."
