| 2 intruders killed in Machil sector | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 23: Alert troops foiled yet another infiltration bid when they gunned down two heavily armed militants in Machil sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
Official sources said here today that security forces guarding the Line of Control (LoC) in Machil sector in the frontier district of Kupwara noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) early this morning under the cover of darkness.
When challenged and asked to surrender, militants opened fire with automatic weapons and also hurled grenades. Troops also retaliated and killed two militants. A large cache of arms and ammunition, including two AK rifles were recovered from the slain militants.
A number of attempts were made by the militants waiting across the border to sneak into this side during the recent past. According to intelligence reports, more than 1500 militants are waiting in launching pads near the LoC to sneak into this side before the infiltration routes are closed due to snowfall.About 50 militants were killed in the woods during the past six months after they sneak into this side from POK. About 20 soldiers also laid down their in these encounters, sources said.
