| SHIV SENA BURNT EFFIGY OF MOHD AFZAL GURU | | | Jammu, September 29: Shiv Sena activists, led by its president Anan Sharma, on Friday torched the effigy of Mohd.Afzal Guru who has been awarded death sentence on charges of his involvement behind terrorist strike on the Parliament house on December 13 , 2001. Shouting slogans the Shiv Sena activists assembled here ta Kachi Chowni crossing and burnt the effigy of Afzal Guru. Talking to reporters after the protest demonstration Anan Sharma said that "it is strange that those playing to the tune of Pakistani establishment were not being dealt with sternly." He said that on one hand Guru has been found involved in the terrorist strike on the Indian parliament on the other hand people in Kashmir valley have been motivated by the separatists for staging demonstrations in protest against the death sentence awarded to Guru. The Shiv Sena activists also took strong exception to the reports claiming Chief Minister,Ghulam Nabi Azad, had appealed to Prime Minister,Manmohan Singh,to intervene so that Guru received some relief as death sentence fixed on October 20, which being Friday, would hurt the religious sentiments of people of Kashmir. Reacting sharply to the development, Anan Sharma said all those people involved in the planning, execution and sheltering militants behind the Parliament attack should be dealt with sternly and there should be no compromise with antinational elements. |
