| People suffer for water, electricity, ration | | NC interaction committee highlights demands of people | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 24- After mass interaction program across Jammu region district level committees were constituted to meet the people and note the problems being faced by them. Under the chairmanship of NC Provincial President, Rattan Lal Gupta a team visited to various districts in the region and noticed that people are faced with shortage of water, electricity and ration. Giving details here on Monday Gupta said that during his visit to Kathua, Udhampur and Basohli areas he found that people are facing shortage of food grains and especially the Below Poverty Line people as the lists of the category are not updated. Gupta urged upon the authorities to update the lists so that people living BPL would be benefited. Expressing serious concern over the fewer monsoons, Gupta said as the Punjab received monsoon less by 41% the areas like Jammu, Kathua and Udhampur which are in resemblance to Punjab also received fewer monsoon causing damage to crops. He suggested that government should constitute assessing team from Revenue department so that affected farmers are compensated suitably. Welcoming forthcoming Panchyat elections, Gupta informed that to empower common masses Panchyat elections are necessary. Gupta said that all his party workers and activists have been asked to make preparations for the same. He said as during last election time Rs. 240 crores were lapsed because of not conducting of Panchayat elections. Expressing serious concern over the price hike of daily use commodities, Gupta said that government should formulate a strategy to bring prices under control so that poor people do not suffer any more. Welcoming the unemployment fund scheme Gupta said that the scheme will provide relief to unemployed youth till they get absorbed in jobs On the occasion several workers of PDP under Kripal Singh joined the party fold. Others present included Youth Provincial President Surinder Singh Bunty, ex-MLC Sheikh Bashir, Peter and Sham Mehra.
