| Bhim demands withdrawal of Pak Army from Gilgit-Baltistan | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Aug 24-Seeking Centre’s intervention in Gilgit-Baltistan region of Jammu and Kashmir, JKNPP Chairman Prof Bhim Singh has demanded immediate withdrawal of Pak Army from the area. He urged the Union Government for its intervention for protection of a large human race. He declared that his party shall hold NGOs meeting at UN Headquarters this year to mobilize international opinion to stop genocide of the inhabitance of Gilgit. Prof Singh accused Pakistan for forcibly and illegally occupying over 28,000 sq. miles of J&K Territory and completely denying the residents of Gilgit, Baltistan, Hunza, their basic human rights, civil and political freedom. He said nearly 15 lakh citizens of India in Gilgit region have remained without any social, economic, political or civic rights since 1947 when the last Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Brig. Ghansara Singh was abducted and detained by the Muslim Scouts with the support of Pak-army and the people of Gilgit were brought under the military dictatorship of Pakistan after the ceasefire was ordered by the United Nations. Prof Singh appealed to the political parties in India and POK also to extend their support to the people of Gilgit region who were occupied by Pakistani army in violation of Resolution of the UNCIP dated August 13, 1948. Since then entire Gilgit-Baltistan is being ruled by a Lt. Colonel of Pak-army and a Tehsildar with no political freedom and no civil administration. Strategic area of Chitral which forms part of Gilgit has been dissected by Pakistan and annexed with Swat area of Pakistan, Prof Singh said.
