| Div Com discusses Navratra festival arrangements | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, AUG 24: To take stock of preparations being made for the ensuing Navratra festival, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Dr. Pawan Kotwal convened a meeting of senior officers in his office chamber here this evening. Discussing the arrangements made by Tourism Department and Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board for the impending sacred occasion, the Divisional Commissioner was apprised about the activities to be performed during the festival, besides other preparations made for the smooth conduct of Navratra festival commencing from September 19 this year both at Jammu and Katra. Stressing on attractive programmes of public interest to be presented during festival days, Dr. Kotwal asked the concerned officers to come up with innovative and impressive events within the available resources to ensure maximum public participation. He said being a momentous affair of Jammu division stress should also be given on the customary programmes. Giving details of the events scheduled to be conducted at Jammu and Katra during Navratra days, Director Tourism, Mr S M Sahni apprised that the main programmes include Shobha Yatra, All India Devotional Song contest, wrestling competitions and cultural events adding that programmes will be organized both during the day and also in the evenings. He said new events have also been planned for this year which includes celebrations at Reasi fort, Akhnoor and other identified places at Jammu. The Divisional Commissioner stressed for maintaining cleanliness and face-lifting of Bahu Fort, Bagh-e-Bahu garden and surrounding areas, besides other noticeable places as heavy rush of pilgrims is expected from outside the state as well. Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Mr. Manoj Dwivedi, Deputy Commissioner, Reasi, Mr. P. K. Pole, Additional CEO, SMVDSB, Dr. Mandeep K Bhandari and senior officers were present.
