| All villages in J-K to be electrified this year | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Aug 24 : Jammu and Kashmir government today said power would reach to all villages this year as 1000 micro hydel electric projects are under execution in the state.
"As many as 1000 micro hydel electric projects are being executed by the army authorities under Border Area Development Programme and operation Sadbhavana (Goodwill) at a cost of Rs 10 crore," Tourism minister Nawang Rigzin Jora told the state Assembly.
Replying on behalf of power minister, Jora said under Rajiv Gandhi Gramin Vidutikaran Yojna, all unelectrified villages and hamlets are proposed to be covered during the current year at an estimated cost of Rs 700 crore.
Earlier replying to A R Veeri of PDP, Minister of State for Power Shabir Ahmad Khan said the total power potential of the state is estimated at 20,000 MW out of which 2318 MW has been harnessed while 16480 MW identified.
