| NC member, PDP, NPP stages walkout from Assembly | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 24 Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today witnessed four walk outs by a ruling National Conference (NC) member, main Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and National Panthers Party (NPP) members. NC member Rachhpal Singh alleged power shortage in his Kalakote constituency during Question Hour. However, Minister Nawang Rigzin Jora, who was replying on behalf of the Power Minister ignored his question. Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone took another question of the day despite MLA Kalakote’s protest who was demanding reply from the Minister. This irked him and later he left the House saying he was walking out in protest. Lone PDP member Syed Bashir Ahmad walked out of the House after his demand to have a 30-minute separate discussion on food shortage in the state was turned down by the speaker. Before walking out MLA Syed Bashir reminded the speaker that he has promised to have a 30- minute discussion on food shortage crisis after Question Hour is over. Other PDP members also joined him and wanted a discussion on the issue. However, Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather opposed a separate discussion and said it was not permissible under rule as discussion and voting on demands for the year 2009-10 to Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) was among up in the House. Rather said the members can raise all issues about the food shortage during the demands for grants for the ministry.
