JAMMU, Aug 24: Organised by Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS), two-day annual inter-district divisional level handball competitions in all three age groups of boys and girls went underway today at District Police Lines grounds, here.
In under-14 boys group, only two districts turned-up for the competition while in under-17 and under-19 categories, five districts each are taking part on knock-out basis.
Earlier, the competitions were declared open by Deputy Director DYSS, Madan Lal. Prominent among others present were Vivek Khajuria, Jai Raj, Jeet Singh, Sunita Goel, Usha Jamwal, Jaswant Singh, Sarita Padha, Jasvinder Kour, Inderjeet, Rekha Ratra, Vijay Kumar Sharma, Anju Gupta, Tarsem Singh, Veena Tickoo, Ram Murti, Tilak Raj, Ravi Singh, B K Tikoo and Romesh Kumar.
Girls’ competitions mere at formality: By holding the handball competitions in girls sections, the organizers are just performing a ritual as only two districts each have turned up in all the three age groups of under-14, under-17 and under-19.
The detailed results: U-17 boys: Jammu bt Poonch 10-01; Rajouri bt Doda 13-10; Udhampur bt Rajouri 10-07. Under-19 boys: Jammu bt Doda 10-02; Rajouri bt Udhampur 10-05; Poonch bt Rajouri 10-05. Under-19 girls: Doda bt Poonch 02-01.
