Mir directs probe into complaints of sub-standard maize seed

Srinagar, Aug 24: Taking strong note of complaints about the supply of sub standard maize seeds to farmers in parts of Jammu province, the Minister for Agriculture, Mr. Ghulam Hassan Mir, today directed the Vice-Chancellor of SKUAST-J to constitute a fact-finding committee of scientists and agriculture experts to look into the issue.
The committee has been asked to visit fields randomly, take samples of the seeds provided, speak to farmers and submit their report to the Government within 15 days.
The Minister had received many complaints over the past few days from the farming community who had requested him to intervene into the matter.
