| Wani stuns House, threatens Congress pull out from Govt | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 24: In an apparently ‘not so serious’ threat to the stability of coalition government, a Congress legislator today threatened to pull his party out of the coalition if problems in his area were not addressed. The members on the treasury benches in the Legislative Assembly were today stunned when a Congress member Abdul Majid Wani from Doda threatened to walkout from the coalition. Raising the issue of shortage of electricity and ration in Doda district, MLA Doda Wani said people as the government has failed to meet their requirement. He said people are questioning the MLAs and wanted to know what we are doing in the house and outside for them. However, when speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone asked Communist Party of India (M) member Mohammad Yousuf Targami to speak on power crisis in the State, MLA Doda stood up from his chair and demanded that he should be allowed to ask his question. ''We are also elected members of this house, representing the people of our constituency,'' he said alleging that he (the speaker) was allowing only senior members like Targami and National Panther Party (NPP) member Haresh Dev Singh to speak on every subject while he and other members were being ignored. ''We are going to leave the coalition,'' MLA Doda threatened. He said, ''We are answerable to our people who have elected us.'' Another Congress member Vikar Rasool Wani from Banihal also alleged that people of his constituency were also facing shortage of electricity. He said for the past six months the entire area was facing acute power shortage. Instructing Vikar Rasool to resume his seat, the speaker asked from him if he was also walking out from the coalition.
