| 4 schoolchildren dead in mishap | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 24: In yet another gruesome accident in the treacherous Chenab Valley region, at least four children were killed and 23 others were injured when a bus carrying school children skidded off the road and fell into a gorge in Gandoh area of mountainous Doda district, this afternoon. Official sources said that a mini bus (JK06-1588) on way from Thatri to Batri area of Gandoh area in Bhallessa tehsil met with an accident near Batri killing two children on the spot and injuring twenty-three others. They said that the children were on way to Higher Secondary School Kahra when the accident took place. However locals claim that four children died on the spot and 23 others were injured ten of them critically. Giving details sources said that the ill fated mini bus carrying mostly school children skidded off the road at Batri when driver of the bus failed to negotiate a sharp curve. The vehicle fell into 100 feet deep gorge reportedly killing four children on the spot. “Local residents rushed to the spot and also informed nearby army post about the accident”, an eyewitnesses told News Agency of Kashmir adding, “A rescue operation was immediately launched and injured were taken out of the gorge”. The injured were shifted to Sub District hospital Thatri, where four of them were declared brought dead. Two of the deceased children were identified as 15 year old Razia Banoo D/o Abdul Lateef of and 16 year old Bibi Hamsa D/o Abdul Karim both residents of Batri.
