| BJP Corporators demonstrate against irregular water supply | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 25- Over a dozen JMC Corporators and leaders of BJP today held protest demonstration outside the office of PHE Chief Engineer against the failure of the department to ensure regular and adequate supply of drinking water in different areas of the Jammu city.
District Jammu President Rajesh Gupta said that in these days of scorching heat, many areas in city are not getting regular supply of water. He said the PHE Minister and the officials have been claiming that with the commissioning of Shitlee Plant, total of 55 lakh gallons water is daily supplied but claims are baseless and misleading.
He posed the question ‘if there is improvement in supply, why the department is still utilizing water tanks to supply water in many areas of the city?, Why the department is spending lakhs of rupees every month on water tanks when there is adequate and satisfactory supply as proclaimed by the department?’. He said the people in some areas have to spend rupees 400 after every 2-3 days for a water tank and the government is hoodwinking the masses.
The BJP Corporators called on the Chief Engineer PHE in his chamber and questioned him over water scarcity in most of the areas of the Jammu city and demanded immediate replacement of old and worn out water pipes of many areas besides repairs and proper maintenance of the water reservoirs cum tanks.
The protestors included Sat Pal Grover, Darshana Devi, Subhash Jandial, Shubh Chander Verma, Priya Sethi, Sheela Handoo, Narsingh Dass Rajwal, Sureshta Jamwal, Ravinder Gupta, Dinesh Gupta, Gulshan Mahajan and Omi Khajuria, all Corporators.
