| Cellphone companies making money both ways –offering poor network, availing free services | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 25: The only business revolution Jammu and Kashmir witnessing over past few years is the mobile telecommunication boom which is which is expanding unplugged. The consumers are though getting hassle free connections to rue for the faulty services and poor networks but the companies are making good fortunes by flouting rules at ease.
On August 10, the Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather went little emotional in his budget speech on the issue of equipment import of mobile telephone companies and therefore he waived off the duties to be levied at Lakhanpur entry point. Little did Rather realize that the telephone companies are flouting all set rules to make easy money –an open theft of electricity –of course in connivance with PDD officials –is the case in point.
Prevailing ruckus in the assembly is common to all but how to play with government order with the connivance of some influential officers was so far hidden matter which was exposed to all when Chief Minister Omar Abdullah refuted the request of the bosses of private telephony service providers and ordered the Power Development Department authority to install the CTPT device with the towers of the private telephony service providers to curb the power loss.
In order to curb the power loss government issued order to the PDD authority to install CTPT devices with the towers. Instructions were also given to the PDD authority to disconnect the power supply to those private telephony service providers which do not adhere with the order. Since the devices are costly some telephony services providers refuted government order and did not install the devices with in the time allotted to them. But what they did in stead with the active connivance of some influential PDD officers they got the work stop with the kind consent of PDD officers . The game plan can be gauged with the fact that order copies of power supply disconnection have not received by most of the Xns. Principal Secretary PDD BR Sharma when contacted expressing ignorance over the matter said that the concerned officer has been directed to circulate the order copy to each Xns of the state but where the copies go is a million dollar question as concerned officer when contacted shifting the blame to the dispatched section said that it was not his job to put order copy on benches of Xns . However, in the meantime the bosses of private telephony service provided with the hope to get the previous order quash approached to Chief Minister Omar Abdullaha and requested him to quash the previous order but having fully aware of the power crisis Chief Minister straight forwardly rejected the request and instructed the PDD authority to carry on with the previous order.
