| 700 youth being recruited for completing land settlement record | | | Early Times Report Jammu, August 26 -The Revenue Department has decided to employ about 700 computer programmers and technicians on contractual basis for completing land measuring program in the sate. Stating this the Revenue Minister, Raman Bhalla, today said that the centre had released about Rs.15.50 crores for the program of preparing computerized land settlement record so that there was no tampering by the junior revenue officials. He said that he had decided that the program be completed within four to five months but all depends on the procedure that has to be adopted for the purchase of gadgets required for measuring agricultural and nonagricultural land in the state and for preparing a computerized data. Bhalla said that in the past there have been a large number of cases where the land owners have complained of tampering with the land records by field revenue officials which had forced the genuine owners to lose chunks of land. He said he has decided to check this trend and this can be done only by computerizing the land settlement. Once land measuring and settlement was complete farmers would receive land passbooks which would be an authentic proof of their ownership of the land. The Minister said that for this difficult process the Department needed the services of about 700 technicians and computer experts. He said he would discuss with the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, the ways for acquiring the machines and the gadgets and the procedure that had to be adopted for recruiting the staff required for handling the machines and the gadgets.
