| Panther roars again as angry young man returns to House | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 26: Two days after opposition members sarcastically demanded a hunt to trace a ‘missing’ Omar Abdullah, the Chief Minister today returned to the Legislative Assembly but to come across yet another confrontation with a legislator who asked the Speaker on Monday “where is angry young man?” Interestingly, while taking on the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the Panthers Party legislator Harsh Dev Singh repeatedly reminded him of the parliamentary interests of his father Dr Farooq Abdullah who as Chief Minister would devote more time to the assembly to listen to the members and personally attend to the issues raised by them. As Omar attended the assembly today after a 13-day gap, Harsh Dev asked him:“learn to face criticism and to accept the bitter realities of life”. The Panthers Party MLA, who broke the House into peels of laughter on Monday by asking “where is the angry young man”, confronted the Chief Minister today when Omar was leaving the House after facing scathing criticism over poor functioning of Government during the last eight months. Harsh Dev Singh, who was speaking on the ‘Demand for Grants’ pertaining to the Departments under the control to Chief Minister, accused the Government of malfeasance and misfeasance and for non performance in all sectors including its failure to provide basic amenities to the people like drinking water, un-interrupted power supply, health care, education and road connectivity. He said that the coalition apparatus had totally crumbled and the Government was grappling with the mess of its own creation. He said all plans of the Omar government had been blown into smithereens and all claims had proven hollow. Unable to take the scathing attack of the NPP leader, the Chief Minister got infuriated and rushed outside the House. This provoked the NPP leader Harsh Dev Singh who said that the Chief Minister does not have guts to face the reality. He said the Chief Minister should have the courage to face the opposition rather than avoiding it. He declined to continue his speech till the Chief Minister returned to the House to listen to the woes and sufferings of people as projected by him. As this created furore in the House, the members of the treasury benches including Mubrik Gul went outside and called back Omar Abdullah. On re-entering the House, Omar said that he had some important assignments and besides it was not a tradition to remain in the House for full time. He said that past records would indicate that Chief Minister did not sit for whole day to listen to the proceeding of the House. Harsh Dev Singh again countered Omar by saying that Dr. Farooq Abdullah would sit in the House and attend the entire proceedings, adding further that there were times when Dr. Farooq Abdullah used to be the first to enter the Assembly premises. He would take all criticism supportingly and assure the opposition of remedial steps he said adding that the present Chief Minister was required to take cues from his father. “I am your friend and not your enemy Singh said to Omar” “All those people who are singing songs in your praise are not your friends. They are only misleading you in a bid to please you. I may sound bitter, but I am speaking the truth. Take the bitter pill, it would help you in the long run and learn to digest it in your ultimate interest to succeed” added Singh Harsh Dev Singh then continued with the speech, which was heard in rapt attention by the Chief Minister.
