| NABARD organizes State level orientation meet | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 27- National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development Bank (NABARD), Jammu & Kashmir Regional office organized "State Level Orientation Meet for NGOs on Micro Finance" here today. The Meet was inaugurated by M.L.Sukhdeve, Chief General Manager NABARD. About 30 Non Governmental and Voluntary Organizations, Charitable Trusts and other associations from 10 districts of Jammu Division participated in the meet. The purpose of the Meet was to sensitize the NGOs, Voluntary agencies and charitable institutions about various developmental and promotional activities supported by NABARD for agriculture and development particularly small and marginal farmers, landless labourers living below poverty line and creation of employment and income generation units in the rural areas. Addressing the participants, Sukhdeve, Chief General Manager said that SHG Bank Linkage program has emerged as the leading Micro- finance program in the country. It is recognized as an effective tool for extending access to formal financial services through the banks to the rural poor. He stressed the need for stepping up SHG Bank Linkage program in Jammu and Kashmir. He said keeping in view the large number of rural household in Jammu and Kashmir, there is a greater need for involvement of Government officials, banks, NGOs and other agencies in the linkage of Self Help Groups to provide livelihood to the rural poor, particularly rural women. He advised the participants that matured SHGs having completed two years of credit linkage from the banks should venture into micro enterprises for setting up small units such as bee-keeping, organic farming, horticulture, floriculture, tailoring, embroidery etc, the scope for which is vast in the state.
