| Jail inmates to get computer training | | | Early Times Report Jammu, August 27 The Jammu and Kashmir Government plans to implement a multicrore scheme on setting up vocational guidance programme centres within all jails in the state. The Director General Prisons, Dr Ashok Bhan, today said "the main purpose of introducing computer education programme in jails was to help all types of detainees to earn a decent living after their release. In reply to a question he said the traditional vocational courses, including carpentry, did not help the detainees, after their release to eke out an honourable living. He said the purpose of introducing job oriented vocational courses was to help the detainees to come out of the jails as reformed citizens and making them to join the mainstream in social set up. Dr Bhan said that each jail would be provided with five to eight computers and the jails officials, including wardens would be first trained in handling of computers so that they would be able to impart training to the inmates.
