| Mumtaz heads SIT to probe Sahai case | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 27: The Superintendent of Police, Jammu South, Mumtaz Ahmed heads a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the cause(s) behind suicidal death of prominent businessman and former President of Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ram Sahai, the Government told Legislative Assembly today. Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Mohammad Sagar today said that a special investigation team headed by Superintendent of Police South Jammu has been constituted for carrying out further proceedings in the inquest and after obtaining FSL report/ opinion, post mortem report and analysis of phone call details, the inquest will be brought to its logical conclusion. He said on August 5, 2009 information was received at Police Station, Bahu Fort Jammu to the effect that Ram Sahai President, CCI-Jammu had received a bullet injury in his office at Bahu Plaza, Jammu. On receipt of the information, SHO Police Station, Bahu Fort along with other police officials rushed to the spot. On reaching there, they learnt that the injured Ram Sahai had already been shifted to GMC by his family members where the doctors had declared him as brought dead. All the senior police officers including IGP, Jammu also rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation. Since it was a case of death under suspicious circumstances, inquest proceedings U/S 174 Cr PC were initiated. Replying to a calling attention notice moved by Syed Mohammad Rafiq Shah, in the Legislative Council, the Minister said that the dead body was taken into custody, seizure memo was prepared and after completing all other procedural formalities including post mortem, the dead body of the deceased was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites. A torn suicide note was found from the office room of the deceased, which was later joined by adhesive tape in which the deceased had mentioned “family reason” for committing suicide. He said that the admitted hand writing of the deceased in his personal diaries were sent to FSL to determine the authenticity of the suicide note. The Minister said the deceased Ram Sahai was not only a prominent businessman but a person of repute among the business community in particular and the public in general. He had good relations with all political leaders and social organizations. He was also a great entrepreneur who played a prominent role in cross-LOC trade.
