| JMC carried out drive against use of polythene bags, encroachments | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Aug 28: The Jammu Municipal Corporation on receipt of specific complaints about the user of polythene bags in some areas, carried out derive against the user of polythene bags within the Municipal limits, the team headed by Chief Enforcement Officers, Municipal Corporation, Jammu alongwith field staff and police carried out surprise inspection in various localities failing under jurisdiction of Jammu Municipal corporation. As per a release the inspecting team seized polythene bags, paharies, reharies and other outlets at K C Chowk, Maheshpura, Ware House Parade, Raj Tilak Road, Sabzi Mandi, Moti Bazaar, Paloura, Patta bohri and Talab Tillo areas. During the course of team on basis of input raided a shop at ware house wherefrom about 125 kg of polythene was seized which was cancelled in the premises. During the inspection 25 challans were also filed and Rs. 5000/- was charged as fine from the defaulters using the polythene carry bags under the provisions of J&K Municipal Corporation Act. The commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Jammu has once against appealed the general public to discard use of polythene bags and has also asked the traders community not to keep the polythene bags in their shops/outlets and adopt alternate arrangement for sale of their products to avoid harsh measure envisaged in the act. Besides the team also carried out the Anti Encroachment drive in these areas and removed encroachments made by the shopkeepers by keeping the goods/prias in front of their shops by encroaching upon payments, footpaths etc. during the drive three mini trucks loads of material like drims, benches, weighing, scales reharies counters umbrellas, temporary canopies, tarpals etc. were seized. Another team lead by Municipal Veterinary Officer while continuing the raid to curb the menace so stray animals visited the areas of Jewel Chowk, Canal Road, Talab Tillo, Aknoor, Parade, Shalimar Chowk, Asia Chowk, Satwari, Gangyal, Kunjwani, Bye-Pass road, and lifted 16 nos of stray animals from these areas. A fine of Rs 1700/- has been charged from the owners of stray animals, the release added.
