Dharampal hails 50% reservation for women in Panchayati

JAMMU, Aug 28: Pt. Dharam Pal Sharma, Ex-MP and Senior Vice President PCC has hailed the decision of Union Cabinet for approving proposal to increase quota for women in panchayats to 50%. The union cabinet has taken this historical decision in its meeting yesterday and approved the amendment of Article 243D of the constitution to reserved 50% of the total member of seats in Panchayats for women.
Sharma urged upon the state cabinet headed by Omar Abdhullah to take similar decision, if possible in this session and increase the reservation for women from 33% to 50%. The panchayat election is due in Jammu and Kashmir and these should be held with the reservation of 50% quota to women, veteran Congress leader headed.
