| Doda faces acute water shortage | | Inhabitants of Illaqa Shiva stage protest demonstration | | Early Times Report Doda Aug 28- Water crisis has gripped most of the areas in Doda district. The acute shortage of water has adversely affected people of far off areas of the district. A massive protest was held at Shiva 10km from Doda city .The protest demonstration was led by the president of the Shiva Ilaqa Baraso Rural Development Forum. The Ilaqa Shiva comprising on 21 small and big villages are facing acute shortage of water potable water. The people have to move about 8km up and down to get a bucket of water said President SIBDF Mohammed Iqbal while talking to media persons. Total maize crop has been damaged due to draught like situation in the area same is true in case of other crops. We have to move our animals for watering to either Neeru River or Chinab 10km from here a local resident Om Singh told. The president of the Forum alleged that three times a deputation of villagers met the District Development Commissioner Doda and barring assurances nothing has been done in practical In the meantime a school head said that 400 students studying in the school are facing acute problem in absence of potable water in the school. When contacted the DDC Sharief-ud-Din said that he has already issued directions to Superintending Engineer PHE to take stock of the situation.
