| No custodial death this year | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Aug 28: There was no incident of rape by security forces, custodial death and disappearance from January to July this year in Jammu and Kashmir, where 121 people were detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA). Though the militant violence has come down, for killing three militants, one security jawan laid down his life in the state. There was considerable improvement in the situation as only 45 civilians and 37 security personnel, mostly Army and Central paramilitary forces, were killed during the period in the state. Official records available here said there was no case of custodial killing or rape committed by the security forces in the state from January to July 20 this year. It said during the period, 121 people were detained under the PSA during the same period in the state, mostly in the Kashmir Valley, including separatist leaders. The report said 45 civilians were also killed in militancy related violence during the period. During the same period, 37 security personnel -- five state police, nine Special police officers and Village Defence Committee (VDC) members, and 23 Army and Central paramilitary forces -- laid down their lives, fighting against the militants. Reports said 113 militants, mostly Pakistani infiltrators, were also killed by security forces in different encounters in the state during the same period.
