| Youth ‘engaged’ by traffic cops crushed to death on NH | | | Early Times Report Ramban, Aug 28: A prolonged protest demonstration was held against traffic police following the death of a 20-year old youth who was crushed to death by an unknown vehicle at Tringla Batote on Jammu Srinagar National Highway late last night. Protestors alleged that the deceased was hired by traffic police for realizing fine money from truckers on commission bases. Protestors also paralyzed National Highway Batote for about an hour demanding action against erring cops. Meanwhile SSP Traffic National Highway Alok Kumar has attached 5 traffic cops including an inspector and has ordered an inquiry into the incident. Five cops who were attached including Inspector Rohit Dev Singh and four other traffic cops namely Altaf Hussain, Mohammad Rafiq, Ghulam Abas and Rakesh Kumar. The incident occurred in the intervening night of 27 and 28 when an unidentified vehicle hit a youth identified as 24 years old youth Zubir Ahmed son of Ghulam Haider resident of Tringla when later tried to stop it near Tringla area Batote on the directions of some traffic cops, protestors alleged. He was immediately shifted to PHC Batote where doctors declared him as brought dead. DIG Traffic Pankaj Saxena when contacted said that the youth was working as a private cook to the Inspector and assured strict action against the erring cops if found guilty. DySP Traffic Doda Amit Kumar Gupta has been directed to inquire into the incident. Protestors also allege that not only Zubair other boys were also hired by traffic cops for illegally extorting money from truckers and were given traffic uniform to wear which is again against law. They alleged that these boys are given double rates as per the day laborer or fix a commission on the amount they collect from the vehicles passing through their entry points.
