| SKUAST organizes village visit programme | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Aug 29: The scientists of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) visited Utterbheni village of Samba district under the series of ‘Village Visit Programme (VVP) as initiated by Dr. B.M. Mishra vice-chancellor, SKUAST-J. As per a release, the team of scientists comprising of Dr. Manish Sharma, Dr. M.S. Bhadwal Dr. Rajkumari, Dr. Sachin Gupta, Dr. UmaShankar, Dr. Satesh, Dr. K.K. Sood and Dr Neetu Sharma interacted with the farmers, visited farmers’ field, discussed various problems and suggested on spot solutions. Also, on spot treatment was recommended and given to the animals brought to the notice of visiting team. At the outset Dr. Manish Sharma, team co-ordinator, apprised the farmers about the purpose and importance of VVS programme of SKUAST-J. In the meeting, farmers raised the issues with regard to pest and disease related problems in paddy and wheat, vegetables and fruit crops and also regarding animal health. They showed keen interest in HYV of paddy and wheat crops as recommended by SKUAST-J. The main problems were poor quality seed, non-availability of fertilizer, devoid of irrigation facility at proper time, parasitic and nutritional deficiency in the animal etc. During interaction, scientists gave detailed knowledge about insect-pest management, weed control measures, seed treatment, integrated use of fertilizer, proper nutritional and health care of animals, latest production technologies and HYV of paddy and wheat crop diversification through vegetable and fruit crops as also from floriculture so as to enhance their economic conditions, the release added.
