| Medical teachers meet Chib, list demands | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, AUGUST 29- Medical faculty Association, government Medical College and its Associated Hospitals and Government Dental College, Srinagar called on the Minister for Medical Education, Mr. R.S Chib here today and presented memorandum, highlighting concerns of Medical Fraternity of the State. The meeting was attended by Principal/Dean, Government Medical college, Srinagar, Dr. Shahida Mir, President of the Association, Prof (Dr.) Muneer Masoodi General Secretary Dr. Mufti Mehmood and all heeds of departments. The Association demanded extension in service of retiring faculty, new pay grades, removal of disparities, more powers to the Principal/Dean, creation of faculty posts, follow MCI norms for faculty recruitment and consider one time waiver in the promotion of all faculty members to the higher posts and filling up of vacant posts of para-medical staff. The Association demanded adequate security system for the Hospitals, College and in particular the Doctors on duty. Besides opening of a Medical University was demanded to address the issues of Medical Education, like Baba Farid Shah University Punjab, Rajiv Gandhi Medical University at A.P Karanataka, Kerala and U.P. They proposed that either the present Medical Colleges be given the status of deemed Universities or separate Medical University with campuses at Srinagar and Jammu be set up. Earlier Principal/Dean, Govt. Medical College, Srinagar, Dr. Shahida Mir welcoming the Minister said that it is a a pleasurable moment for all of us to find Mr. R.S Chib, sparing his valuable time to discuss our institutional problems and come out with lasting and viable solutions. She said that the Minister will definitely pave way for solving some, if not all the problems faced by our institution. She said, we as technocrats believed that our needs are not fancied, demand-driven or aspired but are actually based on situational analysis, considering our expertise and experience in Medical Education Research and patient care. The Minister listened patiently to the Association and studied the demands in detail. He assured that the Government will leave no stone unturned in mitigating their grievances and fulfilling their demands as early as possible. However, the Minister appealed medical fraternity to discharge their duties efficiently and attend the ailing persons with great responsible attitude. He said that it is really a noble profession and its status needs to be maintained.
