| Hugging youth pumps bullet in belly of friend | | |

Jammu, August 29: In a dramatic case of picking up no-holds-barred crime in the City, a youth was fired at in the belly from point blank range by hugging friend at the former’s residence in Shastri Nagar area of South Jammu.
Amandeep Singh, shot into notorious prominence after a shootout incident in the corridor of Jammu University’s Vice Chancellor office few months ago, is currently battling for life in the Intensive Care Unit of Government Medical College here after sustaining a bullet shot in his lower belly. Another bullet which could have pierced through his chest, however, hit the gate of Amandeep’s residence. Amandeep, incidentally, happens to the son of former Member of Legislative Council Depender Kaur.
Victim’s brother Sandeep Singh, an eyewitness, spoke to the visiting media persons about whole incident. The Police, however, were confused over the incident and no FIR had been lodged till late this evening. “Amandeep’s friend Jatinder Singh alias Raja was at the Singh’s residence in Shastri Nagar for a brief while this evening shortly before the shootout incident happened”, said Sandeep and further narrated: “while I was parking my car in the porch, I saw my brother Amandeep seeing off his friend Jatinder at the gate. Meanwhile, I heard gun shot and when looked back I saw Amandeep with his revolver pegged in the lower abdomen of my brother”.
Police sources said that Jatinder alias Raja was accompanied by two youth, identified as Royal Singh son Manjeet Singh of Peer Mitha, Sumit Gondhi son of Omar Prakash Gondhi of Peerkho, Jammu, who were waiting for him in a car parked outside the house of Amandeep.
Doctors operating him informed that bullet has penetrated his lower abdomen causing damage to his intestines. The shoot out incident occurred at about 4:45 pm in the house of ex MLC when Jatinder came to her house and after having some gossip with the victim fired him in his stomach. Sandeep Singh, eye witness and elder brother of the deceased informed that Jatinder being a friend of his brother used to come to their house. He further informed that he was after office hours was parking his car in the house garage when Jatinder was gossiping with his brother at the gate and added that as soon as he closed the car door he heard the voice of bullet and cry of his brother. He ran towards the site to overpower Jatinder and while running he again fired bullet which missed target and hit the gate.
“After firing Jatinder made threatened call to one Jaspinder Singh who happens to be the cousin of the victim and informed him that he had killed his brother and now he is on his gun range”, relatives of the victim informed in the GMC hospital premises. Though the family members expressed ignorance about the reason behind the incident but inside sources informed that Amandeep Singh had diverted his phone calls for the last two days, the reason best known to him. Gandhi Nagar police have lodged a case against the accused and has started a man hunt to arrest him. The statement of the Jaspinder has also been recorded in the GMC hospital by the police.
